Ever since I started to offer newborn sessions I secretly admired the photographers who had a studio. Don’t get me wrong – I LOVED going to people’s houses and capturing their new love right where it belongs – at home. However, for some reason, I was always a bit more captivated by the idea of bringing a little one into a studio, where I could control the whole environment. The lighting, the setup, the atmosphere – everything is ready and just perfect when you arrive with your little one.
Putting everyone at ease and guaranteeing a beautiful outcome, time after time. I started out photographing in one of our bedrooms, but in 2017, I bought a new house with an 800 sq ft studio on the first level – a dream came true! Now I was able to display all my blankets, clothes, and headbands, versus letting my clients pick only 2-3 without seeing them, or touching them, which makes the set-ups even more personal. The heat goes up and down to make sure everyone is sweating nicely at 80 Degrees – it’s been great! 🙂
Venturing out for your Studio Session
I know that leaving the house and driving with a newborn is always a concern, but trust me, you will be so happy once you get here. It will be nice and relaxing, you do not have to worry about getting the house ready, as soon as you get here, I will take over and you can lean back. Sit in my cute waiting area, read, sleep, watch your favorite Netflix or Hulu show, surf the internet, and catch up with friends online – enjoy 2-3 hours where I will take care of your little one(s).
The best part about you driving to me is that your little one will (hopefully) fall asleep on the car ride over, which will put him/her into the deep sleep we need to set up all these cute poses you desire. It is a win-win. 🙂
Of course, the studio is not just for newborn sessions, it is also an amazing alternative when the weather is not great outside or if you prefer studio sessions in general!
I especially enjoy shooting my award-winning milkbath sessions there! The bathroom was remodeled to make sure everything was a perfect fit. I have done some six-month milestone sessions, with various backdrops to pick from. Cake Smashes – you name it! I have my holiday minis in the studio every year, and they turned out just beautiful. It has been such a fun ride that I am so excited to finally share some pictures with all of you who haven’t seen it or are thinking about booking a session in the near future.
So here you go – I hope you are as excited to come and visit!
Studio Q&A: What Clients Want to Know
Q: Where is your studio located?
A: We’re conveniently located in Milford, Connecticut, easy to get to from anywhere in New Haven and Fairfield Counties. To get to my studio, you would take Exit 35 off I-95, then it is just about a 2-minute drive once you get off the exit. Free parking and good coffee included.
Q: Do you have everything we need for the session?
A: Yes! From wraps, bonnets, and headbands for newborns to gowns for maternity sessions, I’ve got it covered. Just bring yourselves (and maybe a snack for you, not just the baby).
Q: Is your studio safe for newborns and kids?
A: 100%! My studio is designed with safety and comfort in mind. I’ve photographed hundreds of newborns and little ones, and everything is cleaned and sanitized before each session.
Q: Can siblings come too?
A: Of course! I love capturing sibling snuggles. I recommend bringing a helper or planning for sibling photos at the beginning so they can relax (or leave with a grandparent!) afterward.
Q: What if my baby cries or won’t cooperate?
A: Totally normal, and totally fine. I work on baby time, not clock time. We’ll take breaks, soothe, and pivot as needed. No stress here!
Q: Do you offer in-person consultations?
A: Yes! However, it doesn’t usually happen; most clients are happy to book online, but if you prefer that, I am game!
Where can you get something to eat around here?
What to do after your session or when you get hungry while in the studio? How about getting something to eat? Check out these places:
Walnut Beach Creamery – amazing ice cream – and who doesn’t like ice cream?
Papa’s Pizza – New Haven-style pizza, yum!
Riverview – A Lovely Bistro that serves great food overlooking the Housatonic River
Joey C’s Boat House – Great place by the water with yummy food
There is also a McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Wendy’s & Subway close by if you are hungry for some fast food.
