WHO's THAT GIRL

I hope you’ve had some fun browsing the pictures on my site (and if you haven’t done that yet, go now!), but now that you’re here, why don’t I share some facts about the woman behind the camera?

As the banner states, my name is Ute-Christin. It’s a mouthful, I know. That’s what happens when your parents can’t decide on one first name, they go ahead and hyphenate both! Two’s better than one, right? Yeah sure, unless you try spelling or pronouncing it. Don’t worry though, I’ll help you with that when we meet, or if you are really curious you can hear how to say my name and start practicing! :)

GROWING UP IN GERMANY

It’s been a long journey from where I started to the colorful photos in my portfolio, especially since I grew up in East Germany, where things were a bit black and white. Including the TV I had. To answer your question, no I’m not a hundred years old, color TV just wasn’t available when I was growing up. The same goes for colored photographs, so when I first started as a child, I would take all my pictures in black and white. Color was simply too expensive back then, so let me just say I am so glad times have changed!

TEENAGE PHOTOGRAPHY REVOLUTION

My teenage years seemed to revolve around boy bands a bit, but not in the way you would think. It wasn’t just the heartthrobs I was obsessed with, but more like capturing their moments on stage with my camera. I actually started following all kinds of bands and groups (that may or may not have included the Backstreet Boys and *NSync), so I could capture every moment on film. Then I’d review my photos, and pretty soon I was selling the best shots to other fans. Imagine me, already a businesswoman at age fifteen! :) The money I made was a great way to see more shows and work on my craft. I definitely learned a lot in those teenage years.

COMING TO AMERICA

At age twenty-three I came to the US as an Au Pair, and it didn’t take long for everything in life to change. My whole family was so far away, so I started capturing photographs of everything! With my environment and the people around me so different than when I was in Germany, photography quickly became my one constant in life. Bit by bit people would trust me to photograph their children, or themselves. I learned so much in those years, that I started my own business in 2010.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM MY PHOTOGRAPHY

I can sum up my outdoor shooting style with two words: natural light. I may not be able to control the weather forecasts (though trust me I have tried), but I attempt to only take pictures when the light is at its best. This might mean I’ll ask you to get up extra early to catch the amazing light during sunrise or keep you out a bit later to catch that perfect sunset but believe me, it will be worth it! What that means for you is layering and bundling up if your session is in Fall or Winter, and maybe some hot chocolate after! I’m passionate about natural light because I truly believe it brings out the best in everyone. Hopefully, you’ll agree as you browse through my portfolio! My newborn sessions take place at my awesome home studio in Milford, CT. Just like most of my sessions when the weather is bad. It is super comfy and cozy and makes you forget that it is raining outside, and I find as I am shooting more and more indoors these days, I am really in love with the variety of setups we can create indoors.

WHERE I’M AT TODAY

The last few years have been the busiest years of my photography business, and I couldn’t be more thrilled! The referrals have been great, and as time goes on, more and more people trust me on every occasion.

I’d say I’m very outgoing and very passionate about the things and people I love. I cannot live without ice cream. I know that’s a random fact but I’m obsessed. Now that we’re on the topic of food, I might actually be a junkie; I just love all kinds of food. I’m serious, give me a nice big bowl of ice cream and I will edit photos all night long. I’m also addicted to watching TV. The cheesier the better. Also, I’m a crier and a hugger. Wow—are you excited to meet me now?

I’d also like to share that I’m a proud member of the PPA (Professional Photographers of America), a member of the National Association of Professional Child Photographers, as well as a photographer for the “Gold Hope Project ”. The latter is a wonderful organization of international photographers that have come together to photograph families for free while raising awareness and funds for Pediatric Oncology Research and treatment. Overall, by continuing to grow and develop as a photographer, I’ll always be poised to have the best possible sessions with my clients, and hopefully, soon you’ll be a part of that client base!

Now that you know so much about me, it’s time to learn about you. Send me an e-mail and let’s get to know each other because I just can’t wait to photograph something special for you! I’ll even share a bowl of ice cream with you (well…maybe) :)

Cheers,

Ute-Christin
