Something magical about photographing newborns, and baby Zoe was no exception. From the moment she curled up on the beanbag, all soft cheeks and sleepy sighs, we knew this session was going to be special. At just 12 days old, Zoe already had her signature expressions: a hint of a smirk, a perfectly scrunched brow, and that dreamy “milk drunk” look every parent swoons over.
Her parents came into the studio glowing with that tired-but-happy new parent energy. They were nervous (understandably!), but within minutes, baby Zoe settled into a peaceful snooze, and we got to work capturing those once-in-a-lifetime moments.
From classic poses like “froggy” and “bum-up,” to a few snuggly wrapped shots in a soft blush palette, every click of the camera was a love note to Zoe’s first days earthside.
Newborn Session Q&A: What New Parents Always Ask
Q: When is the best time to schedule a newborn session?
A: Ideally, within the first 8–14 days after birth. Babies are still super sleepy, curled up, and more likely to settle into those sweet, cozy poses.
Q: What if my baby doesn’t sleep during the session?
A: Totally okay! As a seasoned newborn photographer, I’ve got a few magic tricks (okay, just really good swaddles and white noise). Awake shots can be beautiful, too!
Q: Can we be in the photos, too?
A: Yes, please! I always encourage parents to hop in for a few snuggly, candid moments, messy buns, tired eyes, and all. You’ll be so glad you did.
Q: What should we bring?
A: Just the baby, some extra milk (if you’re bottle feeding), and a diaper bag. I’ve got everything else, wraps, headbands, props, and the softest little blankets.
Q: My baby has baby acne or flaky skin. Will that show?
A: Don’t stress! Flaky skin, baby acne, or little blemishes are common and easily softened in post-processing. I keep the editing natural and gentle.
Baby Zoe’s session was a beautiful reminder of just how quickly these tiny humans grow. In a blink, the newborn stage is gone. That’s why capturing it, fresh and unfiltered, is such a gift.
So if you’re reading this with a newborn snoozing on your chest (or doing laps around the kitchen trying to get them to snooze), breathe, smile, and know you’re doing amazing.
