When to do a Newborn Photoshoot

Newborn photoshoots are a great way of taking your baby’s first pictures as they start their new lives with you. They give you an excellent chance to capture those beloved and fleeting moments for the years ahead; what can be more unforgettable? Knowing when the photoshoot should take place is essential in getting the best out of a newborn photoshoot. This blog post will talk about when a newborn photo session should occur, provide some guidelines for the shoot, and explain why the timing is so important.

When is a Good Time to Schedule Your Newborn Photoshoot?

The ideal time to take those precious photos is between 10 and 14 days old. At this age, your baby is most sleepy; thus, posing is easier for the photographer, and they won’t wake as easily as if they are weeks old. Newborn’s muscles, ligaments, and joints are still soft so they can easily stay in their current positions for a while during the photo shoot. The earlier the age, the more cuddly and sweet the newborn pictures will be.

Postnatal but Pre-Discharge Hospitalization

Another suggested time to set up a newborn photoshoot is right after your baby’s birth but before you are discharged from the hospital. This type of photoshoot is called “Fresh 24” and occurs in the hospital right after your little one arrived. Not all photographers offer this type of service, if you are interested in this type of shoot we are happy to provide a reference.

Newborn Photoshoot Dos and Don’ts – Baby Preparation Guide for the Photoshoot

Firstly, it is important that your baby is well fed, burped, and that he/she is very sleepy. Keeping them up during the morning of your photo shoot will ensure that your baby is extra tired. This will promote calm and comfort for the baby during the photoshoots. Dress your newborn in comfortable clothing that can be easily removed when arriving at the studio. Dress them in a onesie, or anything that does not need to go over their head when being undressed.

Choose the Right Photographer

Choosing a suitable photographer for your newborn photoshoot should be your main priority. Selecting a photographer who has shot plenty of newborn photos and has a solid portfolio to prove it – is highly recommended. Read various reviews, compare prices, and book the one whose style you like and trust. Everyone has a budget and prices may vary but keep in mind that these pictures will stay with you for a lifetime and since the newborn time is fleeting, recreating photos will be hard, in case you are disappointed with the first set of images. Quality over quantity should be the motto here.

Good things take time

For newborn photoshoots, the duration might vary between one to three hours based on the baby’s temperament and the kind of shooting. Babies are not easy to predict, so no one can predict how the session will go until it starts. Do not panic if your baby cries or needs to breastfeed during the shoot, as this is a normal thing to expect. Any photographer will stop the session should your newborn be in distress or show any signs of hunger. Time to feed is always part of your session time and calculated in as part of your final time at the studio.

Post-Photoshoot Plans

After the newborn photoshoot session, your photographer will fine-tune and edit your chosen images. Editing your photographs should take between 2 and 3 weeks. When you receive them, make sure you store and protect them adequately to preserve them for many years.

So typically, the best age for a newborn photo shoot is between ten and fourteen days after birth. The timing is important in capturing your baby’s newborn features since they
change so much in the first few weeks and months. Make certain you get your baby ready, select the right photographer, explain to him or her what you want, and be prepared for the wait during the shoot. If you follow the tips mentioned above, your newborn photoshoot will be a big success and those meaningful pictures will be treasures for a lifetime.
