The Best Three Looks for Your Maternity Photos

The Joy of Pregnancy

Expecting a baby is one of life’s greatest joys, and capturing that stage of your pregnancy is often described as the “maternity glow”! Photographs of pregnant women are such a rewarding gift for everyone to receive.

Pregnancy is one of the most joyful moments in a woman’s life; it is a miracle that fills you with happiness and joy. It is an exciting time when your body transforms to accommodate the little one developing in your womb; you shine with the light of a new mother. Maternity sessions enable you to capture and cherish this unique journey before the arrival of your bundle of joy. When choosing your maternity outfit, consider what fits you best during this unique time of your life. It is imperative that you feel relaxed and happy during your maternity shoot. Below, I will share three lovely maternity outfit ideas to accentuate your womanhood and your growing belly.

Flowing Goddess Gowns

You should choose a goddess gown in delicate fabrics like chiffon and georgette that gently falls over your figure. These types of dresses and materials are soft and fluidly draped, which creates a mesmerizing effect when women wear them for maternity photos. This gown, which is designed for pregnant women, does not restrict movements and is as delicate as can be. These are especially beautiful on a beach setting. Flowing maternity dresses are one of my favorites, but you will need to use your hands to help show the shape of your belly. Flowing dresses are just that, and they do not cling tight to your body, therefore, we will use your or your partners’ hands to help accentuate your baby bump.

There are different types of goddess gowns to wear so check for features such as a v-neckline to balance the whole body and create the look of a longer torso. A tie in the back to ensure that the dress fits you well, and ruffled sleeves to add some texture. The flowing skirt will provide a dreamy effect for movement, which is befitting when taking photos during a maternity session. To be in harmony with the earth goddess theme, simply pose in bare feet on the grass or sand.

Simple Chic in Casual Clothes

You do not need to wear any dresses if you are more the casual type, let’s go with that! Nothing wrong with some pants, and a cute top! Pair that with some nice boots and voila! Outside in colder months, add a scarf and you are good to go! The most important thing about styling you for your maternity session is, that you are comfortable with what you are wearing!

You could also pair jeans with a simple knitted top, or a blouse for a more relaxed and trendier look. Let your stomach area shine, flaunting it by leaving the buttons below the bust line undone. Create a complete look by draping a long cardigan over which will add texture and a level of coziness. Coordinate with a pair of neutral wedge sandals. Bring a hat with a broad brim to create an excellent addition to the range of pieces to use during the shoot. In the studio, consider having a plain and simple background. Feel free to pair your outfit with a crown, or bring along some flowers. Even colorful balloons would be fun to add for some shots as you take the pictures. Have fun with this, so many ways to show off your baby bump!

Tight Fitting Dresses

This works for everyone! Do not worry about your figure or that you gained some pounds! You are pregnant and you want to show off your bump! Clients often think the flowy dress works better for curvy people but actually the opposite is the case. Tight-fitting dresses will enhance your belly but will also hold everything else in case! I always suggest wearing some skims (shapewear) under your tight-fitting clothes. This will help eliminate any lines that are caused by underwear, hey, sometimes we ditch underwear altogether! It will also help with cellulite (unless you are one of those blessed women, we all have it!) and it will just tuck you in super nicely!

When wearing a tight-fitting dress you do not always have to use your arms to form the shape of your belly, that means your arms are free and can be in different positions. That works especially well when you have to hold on to any toddlers during your maternity shoot. We can spike the creativity by shooting from different positions, including side and front as the belly is always in perfect position. Be bold, be brave, and do it, you will see a tight-fitted dress actually looks great on everyone!

Pregnancy is for Relishing

Your maternity photoshoot symbolizes the pregnancy process, a joyful and miraculous experience. Whether you want the flowing goddess look, the casual look, or the form-fitting look, always select the clothes closest to your heart. Switch out clothes and accessories and try different poses to capture the true spirit of your motherhood glow. The most important thing is to have fun taking pictures of your growing belly before your baby arrives. Appreciate this short time when it’s only you and the baby inside you (you are allowed to forget about your other kids next to you or back at home 😉 These photographs will celebrate your pregnancy and embrace this special moment with happiness and wonder.
