Example 1: A Serene Greenhouse Cake Reveal in CT
I recently had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful couple at a stunning greenhouse in Connecticut. The setting was absolutely perfect, surrounded by lush greenery and vibrant plants, which created a gorgeous, serene backdrop. The couple brought along a stunning, simple cake, and the big reveal was hidden inside! The sheer anticipation as they cut into it, and the explosion of joy when the color was revealed, was truly magical. The natural light filtering through the glass made for incredibly luminous and intimate portraits. It felt so organic and pure, highlighting the sweet simplicity of their love and excitement.
Gender reveals don’t always have to be calm; sometimes, a little fun and chaos are exactly what’s needed! For another session, a family of three was finding out the gender of their second baby. We decided on a fun, messy paint reveal right in the studio. I blindfolded the parents, gently placing a handful of colored paint (blue or pink!) into their hands. When they removed the blindfolds, they touched each other’s hands and T-shirts, revealing the color in a beautiful, messy swirl. Watching the whole family share that moment of discovery was incredibly special and resulted in some wonderfully candid, action-packed photos.

- Smoke Bombs: Create a dramatic, colorful cloud of pink or blue in an open outdoor setting.
- Balloon Box Pop: Open a beautifully decorated box to release a cascade of pink or blue balloons.
- Confetti Cannons: Perfect for a joyous explosion of color and fun.
- The Sibling Reveal: Have an older sibling pop a balloon or wear a t-shirt to announce the news.
- Pet Involvement: Include your beloved family pet in the announcement with a special bandana or sign.
The Perfect Timing: When to Book Your Session
The best time to schedule your gender reveal photo shoot is generally after your 16-20 week anatomy scan, as soon as you have confirmation of the gender!
- Book Your Photographer: I recommend booking your session with me as soon as you know the approximate date you can find out the gender. This allows us time to plan the perfect concept and secure the date in my calendar.
- Timing Tip: Plan to shoot when you are showing a cute bump, usually between 20 and 30 weeks. This will add a beautiful element to your photos!
